아이의 항문 속에 좌약을 넣을 때는 좌약을 넣어야 하는 이유, 좌약을 넣을 때 아프지는 않다는 것 등을 간단히 설명해 주어야 한다.
옆으로 눕게 하든지 배를 깔고 눕게 한다.
항문 속에 좌약을 넣을 때 영아는 기저귀 위에 눕히고, 고무장갑이나 핑거코트(손가락 싸개)를 낀다.
그 다음 손가락으로 좌약의 둥근 쪽을 잡고 다른 쪽 손으로 양 엉덩이를 좌우로 벌려 항문을 노출시킨다.
좌약의 뾰족한 쪽을 항문 속으로 밀어 넣는다.
전체 좌약이 항문 속으로 다 들어간 후 양쪽 엉덩이를 한 손으로 꼭 오므린다.
대소변을 가릴 줄 모르는 영유아에게 기저귀를 채워 주고, 대변을 가릴 줄 아는 아이는 잠시 동안 가만히 누워 있게 한다.
좌약 참조.
항문 속에 넣었던 좌약은 항문 속에서 녹은 후 항문 벽 점막층을 통해 속으로 전부 흡수되든지 항문 밖으로 일부 배출될 수 있다.
좌약을 쌌던 파라핀이나 젤라틴 껍질은 항문 속에서 녹지 않고 피 속으로 흡수되지 않고 대변과 함께 나올 수 있다.

How to put suppository into an anus

• When inserting a suppository into your child’s anus, you should briefly explain why the suppository should be inserted and that it does not hurt when the suppository is inserted. • Have them lie on their side or on their stomach.

• When inserting the suppository into the anus, place the infant on a diaper and wear rubber gloves or a finger coat.

• Then, hold the round side of the suppository with your fingers and spread your buttocks from side to side with the other hand to expose the anus.

• Push the pointed end of the suppository into the anus.

• After the entire suppository has gone into the anus, squeeze both buttocks with one hand.

• Put diapers on infants and toddlers who cannot urinate, and allow children who can urinate to lie still for a while.

• After the suppository inserted into the anus melts in the anus, it may be completely absorbed through the anal wall mucosal layer or partially discharged out of the anus.

• The paraffin or gelatin shell that encases the suppository does not dissolve in the anus, is not absorbed into the blood, and may come out with the stool.
