  • 예방접종을 받기 위해 소아청소년들도 성인들도 백신 주사를 맞을 때 두려워한다.
  • 백신을 주사로 맞을 때 아프지 않게 해서 덜 두렵게 하는 방법을 설명한다.
  • 질병을 예방하기 위해 백신을 주사로 맞을 때는 누구든지 주사를 맞기 전에 그 주사 맞을 때 아플 것을 예상하고 두려워하고 부작용이 생길까 두려워하는 것이 보통이다.
  • 실제로 백신 주사를 맞은 후 주사를 맞은 부위가 아플 수 있고 때로는 열, 몸살 등의 전신적 증상도 생길 수 있고 드물게 아나필락시스도 생길 수 있고, 백신 부작용으로 사망하는 경우도 드물게 생길 수 있다.
  • 백신 주사를 받기 바로 전에 Lidocaine-prilocaine and amethocaine 국소용 마취제를 주사 맞을 국소에 바르면 주사 맞을 때 훨씬 덜 아프다.
  • 그러나 많은 소아청소년과 의사나 부모들이 이런 국소적 마취제 패치를 이용하지 않고 그대로 주사를 주고 맞고 있다.
  • 이런 목적으로 쓸 수 있는 엠라 크림(EMLA cream), 페인 이지 스프레이(Pain easy spray), 징고(Zingo), 바포쿨란트 스프레이(Vapocoolant spray), 라이도케인–필로케인 패치(Lidocaine-pilocaine patch) 등 국소마취제가 있다.
  • 주사 백신을 맞은 후 생길 수 있는 열, 두통, 맞은 국소 통증은 Acetaminophen이나 Ibuprofen 등 경구용 진통제로 치료하는 것이 보통이다 출처; AAP News December 2007, p.2.
