약물을 설탕물이나 다른 종류의 당분을 섞어서 먹기에 좋게 만든 물약을 시럽약, 시럽제, 단물 약이라고 한다.
알약이나 캡슐 약을 삼킬 수 없는 어린 영유아들이나 성인들의 병을 치료할 때 여러 액체형태의 약물 중 필요에 따라 한 가지 액체형태 약물을 골라서 어린 영유아의 병을 치료할 수 있다.
몹시 쓰거나 시어서 복용하기에 곤란한 약물을 경구용 액체 형태 약물로 만들 때는 설탕, 꿀, 자당 또는 그 외 다른 당질 등을 가미해서 시럽 약, 점적약제 또는 현탁액제로 제조하기도 한다.
이렇게 액체형태의 약물에 당질을 가해 제조된 시럽약제, 점적약제 또는 현탁액제 중 일부는 맛이 고약하고 몹시 써서 소아들에게 먹이기가 쉽지 않다.
시럽약제나 현탁액제 등으로 특히 영유아들의 병을 치료할 때 1회에 몇 cc, 몇 ㎖, 몇 티스푼(5㏄), 몇 테이블스푼(15㏄), 몇 드로퍼, 또는 몇 방울, 몇 온스, 몇 컵(240㏄)의 1회 용량을 먹으라고 처방하는 것이 보통이다.

A potion made by mixing a drug with sugar water or other types of sugar to make it easier to consume is called syrup, syrup, or honeydew. When treating the ailments of young children and adults who cannot swallow pills or capsules, it is possible to treat the disease of young children by selecting one liquid drug from among several liquid drugs as needed. When a drug that is too bitter or sour to be taken is made into an oral liquid drug, sugar, honey, sucrose or other sugars are added to it to make a syrup, drop, or suspension. Some of the syrups, drops, or suspensions prepared by adding sugar to the liquid drug have a bad taste and are very bitter, making it difficult to feed to children. A few cc, a few ml, a few teaspoons (5 cc), a few tablespoons (15 cc), a few droppers, or a few drops, a few ounces, a few cups at a time, especially when treating diseases of infants and young children with syrups or suspensions (240 ㏄) is usually prescribed to eat one dose.
